Last Saturday, April 23rd, our dream finally came true. We had our most awaited church wedding, after two years of being civilly married.
It was more than what we had hoped for, and it turned out really beautiful and unforgettable. The months and months of preparation finally paid off. And we had more help that we expected.
We didn’t have much resources to spend for a really grand florist decoration, particularly at the church, but to our surprise the morning congregation decorated the church that Saturday with white tulips, in preparation for Easter Sunday. So, sorta like, we had free decorations, which was really amazing! Everything worked out perfectly!
We started the altar ceremony at 5pm. It was very private and solemn. We didn’t have the usual entourage (by choice), just a ring bearer and flower girl. I walked down the aisle to “Here, There and Everywhere” by Beatles (piano instrumental). It was a feeling that I can’t really describe in words. Felt like I was floating every step. I couldn’t feel my feet the whole time I was walking my way close to the altar. I just remembered looking from my left to right and seeing the people with their beautiful smile. I can’t help but play it in my head over and over again. Somebody told me how magical the atmosphere were with the birds singing in the background. I wish I heard them but my heart was pounding ever so loudly as I stand there at the altar, hand in hand with my husband. I promised myself I will not cry because I was worried I might ruin my make up, but I broke down soon as I start my vow.
We had our reception at the fellowship hall of the church, which was more than enough space for 50 guests. The yellow theme was the perfect color. We had planned a summer theme and yellow seemed to be the right choice. Had a little extra work though since it was Holy Week. And being in a catholic country, most businesses are close. We picked up the glasses a few days before, and had to set up the table covers ourselves. But I think it was all worth it! The huge sunflowers acted like the cherry on top, it brightened the whole room and felt like sunny at 6pm.
The food was amazing, the cake (which was a gift from our dear friend Robin) was delicious! Both of our respected friend Pastor Tom handled the altar ceremony and Pastor Stacey took care of the audio both at church and reception. Most of the work at the reception are handled by my mom and our bible study group. Sharon took care of the punch, it was her gift to us. We were overwhelmed with the amount of help we got from our church’s friends.
My husband and I brainstormed the whole program. We thought that it would be wise to start with a speech, to finally answer the question many of them has been asking since we send out the invitation, as to why are we getting married again. Next, we had the dinner, then my husband and I sung a Tagalog song “Tuwing Umuulan” and we had our couple dance. They were pretty impressed with the order with which we took care of everything. Well organized, but really romantic and still managed to make it humorous, very him and I. I was so happy that my husband had that idea of bringing in a little Filipino to the event. He was the one who printed the seating name tags with a ‘learn Filipino words’ at the back. Our guests thinks its brilliant! They had a great time trying their best to pronounced the words, everybody was having so much fun! So proud of him for having thought of it.
Overall, it was one amazing night! I am still waiting to gather the videos and pictures which our guests took because I am planning to make a wedding album (our first album!). Unfortunately, our photographer budget only extend to the altar event, but I am thankful that a friend of ours took charge of my camera and took amazing pictures of the rest.
What can I say, things are in right perspective at this time in our life. The wedding, the baby, and family in general. Truly, Good things come to those who wait.
